In The Times-Picayune's coverage of yesterday's protests outside New Orleans City Hall came this item:
"It all boils down to oppression," said Nat Turner, who gave his age only as "30-ish." "They are denying taxpayers access to a building we paid for."
Turner stood stoic in the downpour. His black T-shirt read: "Stop Bitching, Start a Revolution."
Nat Turner? That's either a hell of a coincidence, or the reporter isn't up on his black history. Or his William Styron novels.
I was watching the news last night on this and thought a similar thing. How surreal, and then ironic, then how history is just doomed to repeat itself in the U.S. over and over again since we can't seem to remember history at all.
Apparently the "war" isn't over. (and I think y'all know which war I'm talking about).

And in the "More Stories" box along the left margin, we learn of this incident:
"Violet man booked with convenience store robbery"
You do have the interesting racial mix in New Orleans, don't you?

I went to high school with a guy named Nat Turner, but I had no idea until college how famous he was! Seriously, it is very possible that the person gave the reporter his real name. The Nat I knew would be 40-ish now, so perhaps he was lying--about his age.
Peace from New Orleans,
Tim
