Yesterday I wrote about the self-published author who claimed falsely that Oprah Winfrey had selected his book for her TV book club. Today comes the news that he's quit his job:
The author says he’s "ready for a new challenge," but would not elaborate on what prompted him to step down.
The "new challenge" being, presumably, telling the truth. He also acknowledges "an error in judgment." So that's what they're calling it these days.
Ah, well: all the more time for TV appearances when Charlie Rose and Jon Stewart's bookers come a-callin'.
I hear a certain Michael Vick might be looking for a biographer....

Aw, this story can't be dead yet!

An "error in judgment" would be sending a copy to Focus on the Family in hopes of getting a positive blurb.
Weaving a very complex web of lies, all of which can be uncovered via a couple of phone calls or mouse clicks, is the sign of someone not banging on all cylinders, I'd say.

I've long harbored the ambition to write a book entitled, "An Oprah Book Club Selection." I wondered if that could have brought litigation if I weren't claiming it WAS an Oprah Book Club sleection; that was merely the title. The book itself would have been a parody of books that get selected like, um, "A Million Little Pieces" or "She's Come Undone." I still think it's genius. But then, I would.
